- Story Text: Iraq's Minister for Oil, Dr. Saadoun Hummadi, is in India to negotiate a long term agreement for the sale of crude oil to India. On Monday (April 2) Dr. Hummadi met President Giri in the President's House, and the Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi.
India plans to buy crude oil supplies directly from the Arab Governments instead of buying through foreign oil companies, as in the past.
Dr. Hummadi heads a delegation of Iraqi experts who are working on the details of an oil agreement with Indian officials.
As the Iraqi discussions continued at Ministerial level, a six-man trade delegation from Bahrain was in the middle of a ten day visit to India. The main purpose of that trip also was to discuss the sale of crude oil to India and reciprocal economic aid.
SYNOPSIS: India's President Giri had talks at New Delhi on monday with the Iraqi Minister for Oil, Dr. Saadoun Hummadi. Dr. Hummadi was negotiating a long term agreement for the sale of oil to India.
A group of Iraqi oil experts, headed by the Minister, had been working with Indian officials on details of the agreement. This follows an Indian decision to buy their crude oil supplies directly from Arab governments rather than through foreign oil companies.
Dr. Hummadi also met the Indian Prime minister Mrs. Gandhi at Parliament House. It was expected that an oil agreement between Iraq and India would be formally signed within a few days. As the Iraqi discussions continued, a six man trade delegation from Bahrain was also visiting India. The main purpose of that trip also was to discuss the sale of crude oil to India.
