- Story Text: Claimed by its makers to be the world's largest tanker, the 'Globtik Tokyo' is undergoing final preparations for launching on 14 October at the Kure Shipyard, Japan.
Built for an English company, the vessel is 379 metres in overall length--32 metres longer than the largest tanker now in service, the 'Nisseki Maru', constructed at the same shipyard. 'Globtik Tokyo' is as tall as a 22-storey building and her upper deck areas could house the equivalent of 79 tennis courts.
After final completion, scheduled for February 1973, she will carry crude oil from the Persian Gulf to a central terminal in Kagoshima Bay, Japan.
SYNOPSIS: Ready for launching on her shipway at the Kure Shipyard, Japan, "Globtik Tokyo's is claimed by her makers to be the world's largest oil taker. "Globtik Tokyo" has been ordered by a British company. She's as tall as a twenty-two storey building, and her total deck area could accommodate seventy-nine tennis courts. When she's fully fitted out and ready for service in February next year she'll carry crude oil for the Persian Gulf to a central terminal in Japan.
