- Story Text: Two Arab envoys arrived in Bonn yesterday (Wednesday) to press for assurances that the West German Government is committed to an Israeli withdrawal to pre-June 1967 borders. Sudanese Foreign Minister Mansour Khalid and Abu Dhabi's Minister of state Dr. Adnan Pachachi were informed that while West Germany supports the United Nations resolutions calling for an Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories, Bonn will otherwise maintain a neutralist position in the Middle East.
The Arab envoys were greeted at Bonn airport by West German state Secretary Paul Frank. Later, they met with Herr Frank and West German Development Aid Minister Dr. Erhard Eppler, deputising for Foreign Minister Walter Scheel who is currently in hospital. Herr Eppler clarified for the two ministers West Germany's special relations toward Israel arising from the Nazi persecution of Jews in the Second World War.
After the meeting, Herr Frank told reporters the Arabs are beginning to understand the complexity of their oil weapon. Herr Frank said the envoys informed him it was contrary to Arab interests to damage the economy of the European Common Market. The Arabs are currently seeking European aid and technology to diversify their industrial base.
Today, (Thursday) Mr. Khalid and Dr. Pachachi met with West German Chancellor Willy Brandt before continuing their European tour to explain the Arab oil position and to seek economic aid.
