- Story Text: Fire breaks out in an oil well in northern Iraq; pipeline hit by a
bomb in Fatha, 125 miles north of Baghdad.
A fire broke out by accident on Saturday (November
13) in an oil well in northern Iraq, an official in the
state North Oil Company said.
The fire in the Khabbaz oil field southwest of the oil
centre of Kirkuk was accidental and did not affect exports
to Turkey, which were flowing at 500,000 barrels per day
(bpd), the official said.
The north produces 700,000 bpd out of Iraq's output of
2.6 million bpd.
Saboteurs have mounted relentless attacks on Iraqi oil
facilities, including pipelines and wells, since the Iraq
war last year.
An oil pipeline running from Kirkuk to a power station
and a refinery in Baiji, 200-km (125 miles) north of
Baghdad, was hit overnight, officials said.
The said a bomb blew off a section of the pipeline in
the Fatha area west of Baiji.
