- Story Text: Iraqi oil well and pipeline set on fire in sabotage
attacks.
Saboteurs on Thursday (September 23, 2004) blew up a
pipeline feeding a refinery at Doura, east of Baghdad, oil
security officials said. Further information was not
immediately available.
Smoke and flames billowed from the pipeline on the
Falluja-Kerbala road, close to Falluja.
Saboteurs have targeted Iraq's oil infrastructure as
part of a campaign against the U.S.-backed government.
The attack followed the blowing-up of an oil well east
of Baghdad Wednesday (September 22).
Oil officials said the well was attacked at 22:00 local
time ( 18:00 GMT) on Wednesday.

from the well which is located in Bob al-Sham area, 25
kilometres east of Baghdad
Also on Thursday saboteurs attacked a pipeline linking
Iraq's northern and southern oil fields and halted pumping
along the line, an Iraqi oil official said.
The pipeline, which was blown up near Najaf, south of
Baghdad, is mainly used for feeding Iraqi refineries. It
has been attacked several times this year.
The pipeline, which was already in need of massive
repairs, was designed to transport Basra Light crude to the
north or output from the Kirkuk oil fields to the south. It
does not extend to the country's two offshore Gulf
terminals.
Saboteurs have targeted Iraq's oil infrastructure as
part of a campaign to undermine the country's U.S.-backed
government.
