- Story Text: American Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger met President Valery Giscard d'Estaing in Paris on Wednesday (19 February) over the French sponsored oil producer-consumer conference. Asked after the one hour meeting if America would take part in next month's preparatory talks for the conference, Dr. Kissinger said good progress had been made in that direction.
Paris is the American statesman's last stop on a ten day trip which has taken him to the middle east and European capitals.
Dr. Kissinger told newsmen after his discussions with the President he had given a full report on his latest trip and progress towards a middle east settlement.
In the past Dr. Kissinger has indicated that he was not convinced about the French proposal to bring together the oil producers and consumers in an international conference. The United States wants the oil consumers to reach broad agreement on their own position before going into any meeting with the producers.
