- Story Text: Saboteurs blow up oil pipeline near Samarra, north
of Baghdad in Iraq.
Saboteurs blew up an oil pipeline linking two of
Iraq's major refineries on Wednesday (August 11, 2005) near the
restive Sunni city of Samarra north of Baghdad, setting it
ablaze, police and oil sources said.
The pipeline linking the Baiji refinery north of
Baghdad to the Doura refinery in the capital.
Attacks on Iraq's oil facilities have been mainly
concentrated in Sunni Muslim areas of the north, which
produce around 400,000 barrels per day compared to 800,000
barrels per day of exports before the war in 2003.
