- Story Text: Fighters loyal to Libya's ruling interim council, the National Transitional Council (NTC), arrived at an assembly point 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of Sirte on Sunday (September 11), as Libya's new rulers kept up the pressure on the pro-Gaddafi stronghold.
Scores of heavily armed fighters in pick up trucks massed at a desert crossroads around midday (1000 GMT), as an NTC observer, perched on a cherry picker, kept lookout. The pick up trucks left the assembly point shortly afterwards, heading towards Sirte.
Fighters at the assembly point said that, earlier in the day, a much larger convoy had passed through on the way to Sirte.
Fighting erupted around the coastal city of Sirte, Gaddafi's birthplace, on Friday (September 09), a day ahead of a deadline for a negotiated surrender set by the NTC.
On Sunday, NTC forces around Bani Walid launched another attempt to wrest control of the desert town from Gaddafi loyalists. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
