- Story Text: The protesters of the Occupy camp in Frankfurt are being evicted. Police entered the camp, dismantled then tents and led protesters away. The protesters say that they won't fight the police and will go away peacefully but their protest will continue.
The end of the Occupy camp in Frankfurt in front the the European Central Bank (ECB) has arrived: Police started dismantling the tents of about 40 protesters on Monday afternoon (August 6).
Before the actual eviction, several police cars arrived at the camp site and blocked off the access roads and barriers were erected.
The police called on the protesters to take down their tents and leave the area. The administration court confirmed the ban of the city.
"We (the city) immediately asked for execution of the order (to evict), to free the area. The protesters made an emergency appeal against it and lost," said Markus Frank from the regulatory agency in Frankfurt.
Immediately after the verdict police started to dismantle the tents and led protesters away.
Occupy said that they will continue the protest.
"I am sure that the people will fight on," said the protester Lisa Kachuk. "We have decided that we won't fight with the police now because there is no point, there is way too many of them here."
Another protester criticised the way the police went about the eviction: And the way the evict us is abnormal," said Carina who did not want to give her surname. "They say that we don't clear our rubbish. We do clear our rubbish. If they say something is wrong we try to do it right. But they can't just come here with a command of the force and get us out." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
