- Story Text: Turkish police in plain clothes asked protesters in the Turkish capital Ankara to dismantled their tents in Kugulu Park on Friday (June 7).
Protesters who set up a camp in Kugulu Park of Ankara in support of Istanbul's Gezi Park decided to removed their tents after the police warning.
"Police in plain clothes came and said if we won't leave they have to charge at us, according to Turkish law. They say it is forbidden to camp here but we don't accept this," said one of the protesters Gonul Oztas.
Clashes between the protesters showing support for Istanbul and the police had been going on in the Turkish capital for a week.
On Friday, European Union enlargement commissioner Stefan Fuele said at a conference attended by Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan that Turkey must investigate whether police used excessive force in a crackdown on days of anti-government demonstrations. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
