- Story Text: Syrians living in the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan told Reuters on Thursday (September 26) that the Syrian National Coalition no longer represents the demands of the Syrian people.
Tens of refugees, including Abu Raafat, took to the streets of the camp in support of the Free Syrian Army.
"We are here in support of the Free Syrian Army, we are with the Free Syrian Army, only they can free our country, this is our army, we are the ones who will free our country. Neither Russia nor Obama, no one will do this, we will free it," Raafat said.
Munther, another refugee living in the camp, said the Syrian people are disappointed with the lack of progress made by the Syrian National Coalition.
"The statement released by the Free Syrian Army demands that the international community lives up to its responsibility with regards to Syria. The Syrian people gave the National Coalition a right to represent them, but we have not seen anything from them. So now we are saying to the Coalition, we gave you enough time, let someone else take charge of what is happening in Syria," Munther said.
The camp, 80 kilometres (50 miles) north east of the capital Amman, is home to more than 120,000 Syrians. The Jordanian authorities are struggling to keep up with the increasing needs of the camp's residents and only a fraction of the hundreds of millions of dollars of international aid pledged to help the Syrian refugees has arrived.
The two year Syrian conflict has resulted in over 100,000 deaths, and 2 million refugees. Close to 500,000 Syrians have sought shelter in Jordan. Other countries also hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees in the region are Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
