- Story Text: Nearly two thousand worker volunteer left the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Friday (January 24) to take part in work programmes in outlaying rural areas of the country. They were the largest contingent of volunteers yet to go from the capital under the nation's National Work Campaign.
They are to be joined by a further four thousand volunteers from other urban areas and will concentrate volunteers from other urban areas and will concentrate their work in the northern provinces of Ethiopia.
Thousands of students and teachers are taking part in the National Work Campaign, which is designed to speed up the development of outlaying areas. Their tasks are to assist local people in preparing crops, improving roads and spreading health and education among tribesmen in remote districts.
Since the programme was launched, it has found enthusiastic response among the young people of the country.
