  • Story Text: Motor-cycles in Italy are getting louder and louder, and the police don't like it. To that end, they've launched a national campaign to deaden the decibels and to make it quite clear to the owners of noisy bikes that if it happens again, they may face more than just a fins.

    Police are taking the situation seriously. They've even set up roadblocks on main roads to stop riders of noisy bikes. When the police catch them, they're subjected to noise tests, and in some cases, if the bikes are too noisy, they're given the equivalent of an unroadworthy certificate.

    So far, it's worked well. Italian police say they've taken action against several thousand noisy motorcycle riders. The ones who've really found themselves with troubles they didn't expect are the owners of motorcycles under 50 cc's. They don't need license plates, but in many cases, their owners have stepped up their performance way above the allowable speed limit, and well above the legal noise allowance.
