  • Story Text: Hubert de Givenchy presented the last of his elegant and ageless couture suits on Monday (October 16) at the Paris Pret-A-Porter fashion show.

    Now at the end of his career, Givenchy was one of fashion's most durable institutions.

    Owners of the Givenchy house, LVHM Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, ended their contract with the 66 year old designer in November and replaced him with young British designer John Galliano in an apparent attempt to rejuvenate the prestigious label and put it back on fashion's sharp edge.

    After 43 years in the business, Givenchy on Monday displayed designs as perfectly tailored as ever with knee length straight dresses, loose belted cardigans over tailored trousers, evening dresses with bustier tops and the favourite Givenchy combination of navy and white well represented among a smattering of Royal blue, turquoise and pale green.

    For ever dedicated to tradition, Givenchy appeared on the catwalk at the end of the show in his white atelier uniform.
