  • Story Text: Worried about recent cases of cholera in Singapore, the Government has launched a campaign to eradicate possible sources of the disease.

    Health authorities say the food hawkers of Singapore -- who run spen-air stalls selling cheap Chinese, Indian and Malay dishes -- are a prime cause of cholera.

    More than fifty of them have been fined for having unclean stalls, leaving food uncovered and wearing dirty clothes.

    The Singapore Government is anxious to avoid declaring the island an infected area because of the effect this might have on the tourist trade.
