Summary:From small beginnings in 1903 with the formation, in Manchester, of the Women's Social and Political Union the demand for women's suffrage grew. Its leading lights were Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Cristobel. In 1905 two members of the WSPU were ejected from a Liberal party meeting for demanding action on suffrage and jailed.
