Story Text: More than seventy illegal immigrants were brought to shore to the southern Italian island of Lampedusa between Friday night and Saturday (June 9 and 10).
The immigrants, mainly from Africa, were rescued by an Italian military ship and Police boats away from Italian shores and taken to Lampedusa. After medical treatment and identification procedures, all the illegal immigrants will be taken to a holding centre on the island and will be later sent back to their country of origin. Lampedusa, mid-way between Sicily and the North African coast, is a magnet for thousands of illegal immigrants every year.
