- Story Text: A love song performed by an Israeli and a
Palestinian was broadcast simultaneously at 0810gmt on
Sunday (March 27) on Israeli Army Radio and Voice of
Palestine Radio station in a sign of new hopes for peace
after years of bloodshed.
The duet "In My Heart" was sung in Hebrew and Arabic by
Israeli David Broza and Palestinian Wisam Murad.
"Love is a common issue, something that everybody is in
search of. Forget peace. Love is that thing that we really
look for," Broza said ahead of the broadcast.
An Army Radio announcer and the head of the Palestinian
Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) spoke on both stations,
voicing hopes for a new era of peace.
"We think that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot
be solved by broadcasting this problem (song). But we
believe that this could be the first step to send a message
to the israeli people that we believe in peace, we believe
in a co-operation, we believe to halt this conflict and to
build a bridge between the two people," Voice of Palestine
director Bassem Abu Sumaya said.
Broza, who co-wrote the lyrics with Murad's brother
Said during sessions in Jerusalem that started two years
ago, is famous in Israel for his folk and rock songs. One
of his compositions, "Under the sky", became an anthem of
the dovish left.
Wisam Murad belongs to to the the greater family of the
Murads, Palestinians from Jerusalem, who are known
internationally as part of Sabreen, a group whose songs
have addressed the lives of Palestinians under Israeli
occupation. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
