- Story Text: INTRODUCTION: The 1981 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded today (14 October) to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The five-member selection committee made the announcement in Oslo. The award was accepted by the present High Commissioner Mr. Poul Hartling who was in Geneva for the UNHCR's annual executive committee meeting.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Hartling is seen here visiting a refugee camp in Hong Kong where many thousands of Vietnamese boat people are temporarily housed. This is the third time that the UNHCR, and its predecessor the Nansen International Office for Refugees, have won the prize. The official citation was ready by selection chairman Mr. John Sanness.
