- Story Text: U.N peacekeepers have removed the bodies of at least
two Hizbollah guerrilla fighters killed in overnight Israeli
air raids on south Lebanon.
The latest deaths coincide with a visit by U.N.special
envoy Terje Roed-Larsen for talks on Israel's planned
withdrawal from south Lebanon and the future of the
international peacekeepers deployed there for the past 22
years.
The U.N.Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Thursday
(May 4) removed the bodies of two guerrillas from the
outskirts of Kawkaba, a village inside Israel's south Lebanon
occupation zone.
UNIFIL were searching the area for at least three more
corpses after being tipped off by a military official in
Israel's South Lebanon Army.
The casualties brought to 10 the number of guerrillas
killed this year in south Lebanon.
On Wednesday, Israel blasted suspected guerrilla targets
inside and outside the zone, just hours after 12 civilians,
including a two-month-old baby, were wounded in an air raid.
An 80-year-old woman and her daughter were killed
overnight by a rocket fired from the direction of the
Israeli-occupied area and their bodies were recovered by aid
workers on Thursday.
Hizbollah, backed by Iran and Syria, is waging a war of
attrition to end Israel's 22-year occupation of southern
Lebanon.Israel has declared it would quit the area by July,
but the guerrillas have yet to say whether they will continue
to attack Israeli territory after the pullout.Israel has said
that it wants the United Nations to support its withdrawal.
