- Story Text: United States troops have finally arrived in the Kosovo
capital Pristina.As they came, a column of Serb soldiers
could be seen leaving the city.
US troops arrived in Pristina on Sunday (June 13), a
day after the Russians set up camp at the airport.
NATO had originally planned to base its headquarters at
the airport, but had to change that when the Russians refused
to let other NATO forces past them.From the new headquarters,
NATO will coordinate the arrival of up to 50,000 international
troops supervising the return ofup to a million ethnic
Albanian refugees.
NATO is also charged with securing the withdrawal of the
Yugoslav army and special police.
A column of Serb forces left Pristina on Sunday.Reporters
said they had earlier been walking around freely in the city,
past NATO soldiers.The bodies of five Yugoslav soldiers were
found on the north-eastern outskirts of Pristina earlier in
the day.
