- Story Text: Self-styled "Peace Apostle", 74-year-old Max Daetwyler of Switzerland, has travelled the world carrying his white flag since 1914. Recently, he was refused a visa permitting him to carry his crusade from Austria into Hungary.
Bushy-bearded Daetwyler decided to take border formalities into his own hands February 3. With his associate, Indian pilgrim Tapeshwar Zutschi - he and his passport - successfully passed the Austrian border point of Nickeladork.
On arrival at the Hungarian frontier station of Hegyshalom, they waited... and waited .. but no warm welcome arrived. Thus rebuffed they returned to Austria and further attempts for a visa.
This refusal of an "iron-curtain" visa surprised Daetwyler, who claimed that Mr Khrushchev allowed him to campaign for world peace in Red Square, Moscow, in July, 1960.
Commenting on his stay immortal homes Daetwyler said: "I am certainly much less mad than the big politicians who think nothing of sending millions of people to their death".
