  • Story Text: Israel and Egypt on Friday (November 9) announced their acceptance of an agreement which could possibly lead to Middle East peace talks.

    The agreement, which so far concentrates on strengthening the shaky ceasefire, was hammered out by United States Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, on the peace mission, which took him to five Arab capitals.

    The agreement is understood to include an exchange of prisoners, access to the encircled Egyptian Third Army east of the Suez Canal and to the town of Suez, and talks about the first ceasefire positions.

    One of the series of talks was with King Hussein of Jordan, whose troops were thrown into the war against Israel on the Syrian front. Dr. Kissinger had five hours of talks with the King in the Presidential Palace on Thursday (November 8) after a red carpet welcome at Amman Airport.

    After the talks Dr. Kissinger told reporters the discussions had "dealt with the construction of a just and lasting peace in the area. I think we achl???ved a very close correspondence of views".

    The Jordan Prime Minister, Zeid Al-Rifa'i, told his Cabinet on Thursday evening, that the discussions with King Hussein had been fruitful and useful.

    He said King Hussein had outlined his country's position that "any just and durable peace in the region depends on Israeli withdrawal from Arab territory, including the Arab section of Jerusalem".

    Later ??? Kissinger flew on to the Saudi Arabi??? capital Riyadh for talks with King Faisal on peace proposals and Saudi Arabia's role in the Arab oil campaign against the United States.
