  • Story Text: French rapid reaction forces, already in place under a United Nations (U.N.) command in Mostar, are preparing their base for additional troops which will shortly be joining them to serve in a NATO operation in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

    The troops already on the ground, currently based in Vrapcici, near Mostar, will, once the first North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) troops starts arriving, be reflagged from U.N.

    to NATO command.

    Under a current plan for NATO operation in Bosnia, the French will operate in a so called "sector south" which includes Mostar, Sarajevo and Gorazde.

    According to NATO sources in Italy, French field command headquarters for the operation would be based in Mostar.

    The peacekeeping force that will replace U.N. troops in Bosnia is known as the multinational military Implementation Force (IFOR) and will monitor the ceasefire, control air space and implement many aspects of the Dayton agreement.

    It will be authorised to use force to prevent violence and have freedom of movement throughout Bosnia-Herzegovina EXPECTED
