- Story Text: The first group of Israeli tourists to visit Jordan since the signing of a peace agreement between the two countries, crossed the border onto Jordanian soil on Sunday (November 13).
At Israel's northernmost crossing point into Jordan, the Sheikh Hussein Bridge, a group of about two dozen Israelis underwent security checks before setting out for Jordan.
One Israeli told Reuters he was "happy to be travelling in the spirit of peace." A similar scene took place at Israel's southernmost crossing point in the Arava Desert. Sixteen Israeli tourists got off buses to go through passport control, then re-boarded the bus to cross over into Jordan.
On the Jordanian side, their passports were stamped with the official Jordanian seal.
The Arava crossing was the site of last month's peace treaty signing between Israel and Jordan.
