- Story Text: INTRO: A Bosnian Serb prisoner released under the Dayton peace agreement has complained of torture and beatings by his Bosnian Moslem captors.
---------------------------------------------------------------- Prisoners in Moslem prisons in Banovic and Smoluca near Tuzla were tortured nearly every day, a Bosnian Serb inmate said on Monday (March 25).
Borko Krcic, 21, who was released this week, alleged that a Moslem custodian ordered him to beat his best friend "with a shovel on his head while he was digging a trench".
"There was everything - torture and beating - everything of the kind," Krcic said.
Krcic said there were others among them who had suffered even more: "Ninko Djuric, a journalist and Zoran Jankovic, a civil policeman were tortured much more. They spent 180 days in solitary cells, they had their legs broken and were beaten on their heads," Krcic said.
"The worst were members of a (Moslem) special unit called "Balte". They used everything to beat us - batons, rifles, sticks and feet," Krcic said.
Krcic was captured by Moslems in September 1995 during an offensive on Mount Ozren. He was released on March 23 this year after spending most of the time in custody in Moslem prisons in Banovici and Smoluca near Tuzla.
