- Story Text: United States (U.S.) peace negotiator Richard Holbrooke said he and European Union (EU) mediator Carl Bildt would fly to Belgrade later on Sunday (September 3) for meetings with Serbia's President Slobodan Milosevic.
The talks would be part of preparations for discussions in Geneva next Friday between the foreign ministers of the rump Yugoslavia, Croatia and the Moslem-led government of Bosnia, he indicated to reporters.
Holbrooke was speaking before briefing Islamic and European ambassadors to the United Nations European headquarters on his efforts to win acceptance by all sides in the conflict of a peace plan for Bosnia.
"We're going to go on to Belgrade. I know that Mr Bildt is seeing President Milosevic tomorrow (Monday) and I'm having dinner with him tonight," he said.
Holbrooke, who played the key role in setting up next Friday's meeting at which the rump Yugoslavia -- Serbia and Montenegro -- will represent the Bosnian Serbs, came to Geneva from Brussels where he briefed NATO ambassadors.
He said a time limit that NATO and the United Nations military command in Bosnia had given the Serbs on Sunday to pull back their heavy weapons around Sarajevo was "not very long, and it is unambiguous."
