- Story Text: The first train from Germany carrying equipment and a small number of United States (U.S.) troops heading for the Bosnia peace implementation mission arrived at the Czech town of Pilsner on Saturday (December 9).
Two trains carrying equipment from the U.S. army's 72nd Signal Battalion, accompanied by several soldiers to guard them, left a U.S. base in Mannheim in Germany late on Friday.
The equipment will be used to set up communications networks in Croatia and Bosnia.
The trains' departure had been delayed as officials sought approval from the Czech government to allow foreign troops on their soil.
Prague issued a directive on Wednesday to allow U.S. military equipment to pass by rail through the country but it allows only a few soldiers to travel with the equipment trains.
