- Story Text: The Chief of the United Nations peace-keeping forces in the Middle East, Major-General Ensio Siilasvuo, had a half-hour meeting with Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Dayan in Jerusalem on Sunday (2 December) in an attempt to revive the deadlocked military talks between Egypt and Israel and shore up the shaky Middle East ceasefire.
The meeting came four days after Egypt broke off the military talks with Israel at Kilometre 101 on the Cairo-Suez road.
Mr. Dayan, who was accompanied by Major-General Aharon Yariv, Israel's chief representative at the Kilometre 101 talks, met General Siilasvuo in the King David Hotel after a cabinet meeting at which he is believed to have reviewed the situation.
General Siilavuo said after the meeting that he thought the talks at Kilometres 101 had been very useful.
Mr. Dayan was asked if he felt the talks with Egypt would now be resumed. A transcript of his comments on film follows:
