- Story Text: The death of young Argentine official shook up a Mercosur summit on Tuesday (December 20) in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Ivan Heyn, a 33-year-old economist and Argentina's Under-secretary of External Trade, was found dead Tuesday afternoon at his hotel room in Montevideo.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez left the summit meeting after finding out about Heyn's death, which Uruguayan officials initially said was suicide.
Local news outlets reported Heyn was found hanging and nude. Authorities called off the official photo, but the summit is expected to continue as planned.
The young economist had recently been named to Fernandez's government after she was re-elected in October.
Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay are the only full members of the bloc. Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Ecuador's Rafael Correa were also at the summit in hopes of joining the trade bloc. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
