- Story Text: Spain's Crown Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia attended the opening of the Fifth World Congress on Victims of Terrorism with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on Friday (May 29).
The officials expressed their solidarity with victims of terrorism.
Former hostage Clara Rojas, who was kidnapped by the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) as she campaigned with Franco-Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, said the focus must be on those who are still being held.
"Finally, we need to unite to get ahead, working for others who are today suffering not just in Colombia but in other parts of the world and, through those ties of union, we can work on this problem," she said.
The Spanish couple also traveled to a local library where they donated 1,500 children's books in the name of Spain.
The couple traveled to Colombia's second city of Medellin one day after presiding over an agreement to extend 253 million euros of credit to Colombia for investments in small and medium businesses.
The heir apparent to the Spanish throne and his wife are on the third day of a five-day visit to Colombia.
They will then travel to El Salvador to meet the President-elect Mauricio Funes, who takes office in June.
