- Story Text: French citizens across the country respected three
minutes of silence to honour the dead of the attacks
on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon
Washington.
Citizens across France were encouraged to keep three
minutes of silence at 1200 local time (1000 gmt) on Friday
(September 14) to express France's grief for the victims and
their families. The bells of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris
rang during the three minutes, while the Paris Bourse stopped
transactions and buses and metros stopped running.
The 3-minute silence gesture was also respected in airports
and schools across the country.
