- Story Text: Western air strikes overnight on Monday (March 21) hit a naval facility in the east of the Libyan capital and destroyed several military vehicles.
Cameramen taken to the facility on Tuesday (March 22) by Libyan officials videotaped four Soviet-made missile trucks, which had been destroyed.
They were parked inside a building whose roof had collapsed, leaving piles of smouldering rubble and twisted metal.
The trucks did not appear to have missiles attached to them, but in a corner of the building were two intact missiles, a Reuters reporter taken to the facility said.
Libyan officials at the scene said the facility was used only for training and carrying out maintenance.
"This is group of workshops where repairs to some of our navy equipment is carried out. And all you can see is here to be repaired. But as you can see the Tomahawk missile destroyed it before we were able to use it. So this is a workshop for maintenance," said Colonel Fathi Arrab.
The officials said the facility, on the Mediterranean coast, was hit by six missiles and one bomb and that no one was hurt in the attack.
"For sure this building is a storage and a workshop for maintenance. It was targeted last night. We have a warning that it might be targeted but thank god no one was here at the time which was fortunate," said Captain Abdul Bast, a naval officer.
No ships were said to have been hit in the Western-led air attack. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
