  • Story Text: A suicide bomber rammed a car packed with explosives into the house of a senior police officer in the southwestern city of Quetta, killing at least one man and wounding at least four other people, including two children on Thursday (April 7), police said.
    According to police, the attacker first opened fire and then blew up his explosive-laden car outside the home of Deputy Inspector-General of police Wazir Khan Nasir, killing a police constable on duty at the gate.
    Several properties in the surrounding area were also damaged.
    A policeman wounded in the attack, Azad Khan, said: "I was on duty. I was sitting on a chair. Suddenly there was a blast. A piece of broken glass hit me. I got injured and I don't know what happened later."
    No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but in Balochistan province, of which Quetta is the capital, such incidents have been blamed on Baloch rebels.
    Balochistan has long been the scene of a low-level insurgency by nationalists who demand a greater share of profits from natural resources extracted from their province.
