- Story Text: Israeli planes continued to target gunmen overnight in Gaza, killing at least five civilians.
In the southern town of Khan Younis, a missile hit a metal factory in a predawn strike on Friday (July 28).
The strike injured five according to medics among them two children and a woman, the missiles have destroyed the factory and caused some damage to neighbouring houses and apartments.
In Gaza city, Israeli forces killed five civilians on Thursday (July 27), according to Palestinian medical workers.
Israel's month-long offensive into the Gaza Strip to recover a captured soldier and end cross-border rocket attacks has largely been overshadowed by fighting against Hizbollah guerrillas in Lebanon, but shows no sign of slackening.
The latest death is that of a 12-year-old boy who was killed by a bullet that witnesses said was fired by an Israeli tank near the town of Jabalya in northern Gaza.
Those who died on Thursday included a 75-year-old woman, whose house was hit by a missile or shell. Medical workers said two civilians, aged 16 and 23, were killed in an air strike.
The army said its air strikes and other assaults had targeted groups of gunmen, including some who fired an anti-tank missile at troops.
A spokeswoman said the military did not fire at civilians intentionally and was constantly warning them to evacuate areas where militants were present.
In a late night attack, Israeli aircraft fired three missiles at a house owned by the family of a militant from the ruling Hamas faction in Gaza City, witnesses said.
They said the family had evacuated after the military warned the house would be targeted. The army said it had targeted a building used by Hamas to store weapons.
At least 149 Palestinians, around half of them civilians, have been killed in the month-long assault on Gaza. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
