- Story Text: Greek police held an emergency press conference in Athens on Saturday (April 10) to announce they have detained suspects beleived to be involved in bombing attacks.
"Counter terrorist units of the Hellenic police detained individuals and conducted house searches in which important items were found and seized," said police spokesman Thanasis Kokalakis.
Kokalakis did not elaborate, but a police official who declined to be named said four people had been detained after houses were raided, and are believed to be associated with groups carrying out attacks in the capital.
A series of bombings and attacks have taken place in Athens since December 2008, when a teenage boy was shot dead by police in an Athens street.
Various anti-establishment guerrilla groups have claimed responsibility for the bombings, some of them quite powerful, which targeted the Athens Stock Exchange, banks, government buildings, police buildings and businesses. The police official said the investigation was continuing. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
