- Story Text: Four soldiers were injured when an explosion struck their vehicle in eastern Turkey on Saturday (July 24).
A convoy of military vehicles was travelling in Dogubayazit district of eastern Agri province when a mine exploded, state run Anatolian news agency reported.
The convoy was carrying a military team returning from patrol when the blast occurred.
The wounded soldiers were transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
The mine was placed by a separatist terrorist group, Agri governor's office said in a written statement. The term is mostly used for members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). PKK have not claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
PKK guerrillas frequently launch bomb attacks on military targets in the region.
Fighting has intensified since the PKK ended a 14-month ceasefire at the start of June, accusing the government of not being serious in its bid to boost Kurdish minority rights and bring to an end an insurgency that began in 1984.
More than 40,000 people have died in the 26-year conflict.
Most of the PKK's estimated 4,000 fighters are based in the mountains of neighbouring northern Iraq, from where they launch attacks on military targets in southeast Turkey. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
