- Story Text: A car bomb targeting a passing convoy of a senior police officer exploded in the northern oil-rich city of Kirkuk on Monday (July 2), killing two civilians, according to police.
Nine other people were wounded in the attack including four police officers.
The bomb exploded as the three-vehicle convoy of Colonel Adnan Mohammed, Police Chief of al-Adala Police Department was driving in Al-Wassiti district south of Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad.
Colonel Mohammed escaped the attack unscathed. An eye witness said the two who died were standing near a kiosk selling ice.
Kirkuk, which sits on some of Iraq's richest oil reserves, is divided among Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen, all of whom lay claim to the city. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
