- Story Text: Security was tightened across Europe on Monday (October 4) after U.S. Television channel Foxs News on Sunday (October 3) named a number of famous tourist attractions which were thought to be possible targets of a attack planned in Germany.
Berlin's prestigious Hotel Adlon which is situated beside the city's landmark Brandenburg Gate was named as a possible target. The hotel is often used by heads of state, including U.S. President Barack Obama, as well as international celebrities.
Berlin's main train station and the television tower at the Alexanderplatz square, Berlin's highest building, were also mentioned.
"If they mean it seriously then yes, I am worried," said Arnold Schmolke, a tourist from the German city of Dresden visiting Berlin.
"We can't live with fear all the time, we have to have some trust. But there are people who want to do violent things in the world," Spanish tourist Carmen told Reuters TV.
The news comes just days after the U.S. and Britain strengthened warnings to their citizens living in and travelling to both France and Germany of the increased threat of an attack. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
