- Story Text: A car bomb exploded south of Baghdad early on Saturday (July 21), killing one civilian and wounding five others, police and witnesses said.
They said that the car was parked near an ice shop in Mahmudiya town, 30 kilometres (20 miles) south of Baghdad.
The town, which has a mixed Shi'ite and Sunni population, has been relatively calm in the past two months.
A roadside bomb hit a minivan in eastern Baghdad, killing five people and wounding eight others, police said.
The attack took place in al-Baladiyat district.
U.S. and Iraqi forces have launched a major clampdown in the capital targeting militants blamed for indiscriminate attacks fomenting sectarian hatred, but violence continues to flare. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
