- Story Text: At least six people, including the wife and daughter of a Baluchistan Assembly lawmaker, were killed in separate incidents of gunfire in Pakistan's southern city of Karachi early on Tuesday (January 31).
The wife, daughter and driver of the sitting member of provincial assembly Bakht Yar Domki from the town of Sibi in the southwestern Baluchistan province, were killed on their way home.
Senior police official Shaukar Ali said investigation is ongoing.
"We are unable to ascertain at the moment the number of attackers, and whether they were riding motorcycles or not, if it was an ambush or the attackers were chasing the car, we can't say at the moment," he said.
A few hours earlier, three were killed in separate incidents of gunfire in other areas of Karachi.
A city of more than 18 million, Karachi has a long history of violence, and ethnic, religious and sectarian disputes and political rows can often explode into battles engulfing entire neighbourhoods.
More than 1,600 people were killed in Karachi last year in either political and sectarian violence or by drug dealers, mafia hitmen and extortionists, marking the worst bloodshed since the army was called in to ease street battles in the 1990s. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
