- Story Text: South Korea conducted a chemical, biological and radiological drill at a Seoul subway station on Tuesday (May 7).
The drill aimed to prepare the civil service and residents for potential attacks on the South Korean capital, staging a poisonous gas and fire attack at the subway.
About 100 civilians and 131 personal from police, military, fire department and local government took part the drill.
"We conducted the drill with civilians as well as the government and military personnel to ensure people's safety and to protect facilities from a (possible) terror attack, such as fire and poisonous gas attacks which can occur at a subway station," the Chief of Safety Management Office at Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Lee Jong-pil said.
Lee said the drill is not in direct preparation against any potential North Korean attacks, as tensions with its bellicose neighbour remain high. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
