- Story Text: South Korea held a drill on Thursday (June 13) simulating hostage-taking to prepare for possible attacks ahead of an international sports event to be held in the country.
About 320 soldiers, police and fire fighters took part in the drill held in Incheon, about 35 km (21 miles) west of Seoul, and they demonstrated hostage rescue operations and dismantling explosives techniques.
"Threats of terrorism have been increasing recently at sports events, such as the Boston marathon bombing. So, we conducted a drill to hold a successful and secure competition without terrorist threats," said South Korean colonel Kang Jeong-deong.
South Korea's port city Incheon is hosting the 2013 Asian lndoor and Martial Arts Games which kicks off on June 29, as well as the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
