  • Story Text: A terrified mother and her two children lay on the floor playing dead as gunfire rang out in a Nairobi shopping mall on Saturday (September 21).
    A few minutes later, during what seemed to have been a lull in the shooting, a police officer in civilian uniform slid forward on his stomach to reach the family and to try to lead them to safety.
    The terrified woman hesitated before the police officer was able to persuade them to come with him.
    Investigators and rescue workers were on Wednesday (September 25) picking through rubble of the mall after troops battled for four days with Islamist militants following the attack that killed at least 67 people and left an unknown number of assailants dead.
