- Story Text: Marathon world record holder Wilson Kipsang on Monday (September 30) expressed sadness over the recent attack on a shopping mall at home in Kenya in which at least 67 people died.
The Somali Islamist militant group al Shabaab said its members attacked the Westgate centre in Nairobi on September 21 because of Kenyan military involvement in Somalia.
So far 67 bodies have been counted, but more could be in the rubble.
Speaking in Berlin after winning Sunday's marathon there in a world record time, Kipsang said he hoped his win had given Kenyans something to be pleased about during a tough time for the country.
"I think, I cannot say much about the Westgate issue. I think it was really sad for Kenya because lives were lost, people were really injured and the country was going through a tough situation. Yesterday, when I broke the world record, the whole country was also happy and celebrating. That's what I can say: a positive part," said Kipsang. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
