- Story Text: Two bomb blasts and a suicide attack targeting security forces in Pakistan's biggest city Karachi killed four people including three paramilitary troops on Wednesday (January 29), authorities said.
Four others were wounded in the attacks.
In the first incident, one paramilitary soldier was killed and three were injured after two bombs exploded at the North Nazimabad area in the western part of the city.
Later, a suicide bomber blew himself up when intercepted by the security officials outside the Rangers' headquarters located in the same area, killing two soldiers and a civilian security guard, and injuring another.
The bodies and injured were transported to a nearby hospital.
Rescue worker Zameer Ahmed was one of those injured in the blast.
"We rushed to the site as soon as we received the information about the first blast. As we were busy carrying out rescue work under the bridge of Board office, I think, someone threw an explosive at the checkpost from the overpass which exploded near the wall of checkpost. I was injured and was unable to move. My colleagues brought me here," he said.
No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
The steamy port city of Karachi is Pakistan's financial heart and home to 18 million people. It typically sees about a dozen murders a day, a deadly combination of political killings, attacks by Taliban and sectarian militant groups, and street crime. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
