- Story Text: A car bomb exploded in the eastern part of the capital Baghdad on Wednesday (March 14), killing one civilian and wounding two others, police sources said.
They said that the car was parked on the side of the road. the real target of the attack was not known.
"At 0715 a.m. sharp a minibus, which was parked here exploded, hurting another minibus, which was driving near and injuring a female student slightly in her ear, thanks God," said Shihab al-Jibbouri, who was walking in the area when the blast happened.
Meanwhile, two policemen were wounded when a roadside bomb struck their patrol while it was driving in an industrial area in the eastern part of the capital, police said.
The blast caused a small crater on the street and shattered glass windows of nearby shops.
Sunni insurgents fighting to topple the Shi'ite and Kurdish-led government attack Iraqi army and police patrols on a daily basis.
The blasts came hours before the trial of Saddam Hussein was due to resume in Baghdad. Saddam and seven others are charged with crimes against humanity in connection with the execution of 148 villagers from Dujail after an assassination attempt on his life there in 1982. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
