Story Text: Gunmen opened fire on a police convoy in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Monday (October 3), killing two policemen and wounding three others, police said. The attack took place in al-Hay al-Askari neighbourhood, south of the oil rich city. "We sent a police patrol to protect schools then terrorists opened fire on this patrol, killing two, and wounding three policemen" said police officer Colonel Anwar. Kirkuk, about 250 km (150 miles) north of Baghdad where Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen ethnic groups have staked competing claims to the capital of the big northern oilfield, has seen frequent attacks in recent months.
