- Story Text: A roadside bomb exploded near a crowded garage in eastern Baghdad on Tuesday (January 17), wounding four civilians, police said.
The attack took place in al-Mashtal neighbourhood of eastern Baghdad.
Witnesses at the scene said the target of the attack appeared to be a passing police car, all the victims were civilians and at least number of civilian cars were damaged.
"The main target was a police patrol but it exploded (the bomb) near civilians. There were about four to five civilians wounded in the attack," said Firas Awda, an eye witness.
Meanwhile, gunmen shot dead two men working for the civil defense services in the southern neighbourhood of Dourra, police said.
Relatives came to al-Yarmouk hospital and took the victims for burial.
Near Samarra, saboteurs blew up an oil pipeline early on Tuesday, the latest in a series of attacks on oil pipelines in Iraq.
Witnesses said that a bomb went off under a pipeline in an area called al-Mafraq about 15 km south of Samarra.
The U.S.-backed government has been struggling to supply fuel and electricity to the population in face of sabotage against energy facilities, mostly in Sunni regions in the centre and north of the country. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
