- Story Text: Jewish settlers shot and injured two Palestinian men at the West Bank village of Hawara on Thursday (January 5), witnesses say.
The two men were rushed to the local hospital at the neighbouring town of Nablus, where they were treated.
Saleh Samid, one of the men who were shot by settlers, told Reuters Television that his cousin and him were walking home to Hawara village when the settlers attacked them.
"I was walking behind a gas station and I saw a settler in a white car -- Subaru Station -- and he began shooting at us. He shot me in the leg and the bullet went through my leg into my cousin's leg and then the guys came and called the ambulance, and the soldiers also came and began questioning us," he said laying on a hospital bed.
Israeli army spokeswoman said that forces deployed in the area began searching for the shooters after receiving an initial report of the violent incident.
Violent incidents between settlers and Palestinians - living practically side by side across the West Bank -- are not a rear site.
Settlers have been accused for uprooting Palestinian villagers' Olive trees, taking over Palestinians abandoned houses and preventing farmers from reaching their fields to work.
Last week, settlers from in and around Hebron who took over Arab owned shops and began expanding the perimeter of the predominantly Arab city's Jewish enclave clashed with Israeli security forces who tried to evict them. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
